Geoff Pearson

A Q&A with your 2020 Captain!

When did you join Greenisland Golf Club?

What attracted you to join Greenisland GC?
My grandfather had introduced me to golf before we moved to Greenisland so joining was the obvious thing to do when we moved to the area.

Can you remember your handicap when you joined?

What is your handicap now?

Have you seen much change with the course or the club during your time here?

When i joined there wasn't a lot of trees as these were planted in the 1980's. They have now matured the course and although short by modern standards it requires accuracy over length.

What is your favourite hole on the course and why?

Statistically the 3rd but the 19th would be my favourite.

What is your least favourite hole on the course and why?

I always have problems playing the 6th, probably make 4 more often than 3!

If you could make once change to a hole what would it be?

I would remove "Cecil's" tree to the right of the 3rd fairway as it is like a magnet off the tee or flatten out the first!

What is your favourite course played?

I have to say in Ireland definitely Royal Portrush but the PGA Catalunya would be my favourite on mainland Europe.

What is your favourite club in your bag?

Anyone who plays with me will know the answer to that one - Driver!

Have you ever had a hole in one?

One in a Wednesday night sweep years ago so doesn't really count!

Who is your best memory in playing golf?

Greenisland punches above it's weight on the course and i have been privileged to be involved in some of our success stories over the years.

Who is your favourite pro golfer and why?

I dont really have a favourite but support all the local guys when they are in contention.

Who would be your ideal four ball?

Wayne "Radar" Riley, Rory McIlroy, Alex Ferguson and myself!

Finally, what are you most looking forward to in your year of captaincy?

I have always been proud to represent Greenisland on the course and now as Captain I am looking forward to ensuring the club moves forward in these difficult times for clubs in general.

A Q&A with your 2019 Lady Captain

When did you join Greenisland Golf Club?

What attracted you to join Greenisland GC?

When i got married my husband John was already playing golf and i was intrigued to learn more about this wonderful game. The social side is great with living nearby.

Can you remember your handicap when you joined?

What is your handicap now?

Have you seen much change with the course or the club during your time here?

Yes, the course has matured a lot with more trees and the new 125 Anniversary bridges are now in place at the 9th Hole. The clubhouse bar and dining room areas have been refurbished and a great atmosphere is always felt at all social events!

What is your favourite hole on the course and why?

The 3rd hole, I always seem to play it well and it is always nice to pass your own house when walking down the fairway.

What is your least favourite hole on the course and why?

8th hole. I seem to have a mental block with this hole and i miss the green more than i hit it and therefore leaves me a very difficult second shot.

What is your favourite club in your bag?

My little pinky rescue club.

Have you ever had a hole in one?

No but i will keep trying!

Who is your favourite pro golfer and why?

Rory McIlroy. A very nice lad, so proud of Northern Ireland and extremely talented. A credit to our country and golf.

What is the best course you have played?

Galgorm Golf Club

Whats your favourite tipple?

Sauvignon Blanc White Wine

Do you have any pets?

Yes, a border collie called Tess. Our wee baby.

What is your proudest golfing moment?

Being Runner Up on Lady Captains Day.

What is your vision for Greenisland GC?

To carry on the great work of the past lady captains, helping our ladies branch to continue to grow and blossom. I want to encourage and maintain the friendships and enjoy the social side as well.
