Captain

A Q&A with your 2018 Captain!

When did you join Greenisland Golf Club?

What attracted you to join Greenisland GC?

I wanted to start golf and at the time lived within walking distance, the social
life was excellent and easily accessed with a young family.

Can you remember your handicap when you joined?

28

What is your handicap now?

18

Have you seen much change with the course or the club during your time here?

There have been lots of changes on the course- the bridge at the 2nd has been built, the green extended at the 4th and ditch covered in and a new drain constructed at the 1st. The trees have matured considerably as now we are cutting some back but when I joined they were still being planted. The course is generally in much better condition. The clubhouse has been altered with bar being moved, dining room remodelled & membership numbers have increased.

What is your favourite hole on the course and why?

The 4th as I recently had an eagle 2 at it.

What is your least favourite hole on the course and why?

The 14th as I can’t hit as long as I used to.

What is your favourite club in your bag?

5 rescue club

Have you ever had a hole in one?

No but still hopeful!

Who is your favourite pro golfer and why?

Rory as the local boy has done so well and he’s a great ambassador for N Ireland.

Who would be your ideal four ball?

It would be hard to beat my existing 4 ball but in the fantasy world it would be Bruce Forsythe as “didn’t he do well”, Frank Carson as “it’s the way he tells them” and finally Padraig Harrington because he is such a good ambassador for golf.

What is the best course you have played?

The K Club

What’s your favourite tipple?

A cool pint of Coors

Do you have any pets?

None at the moment

What is your proudest golfing moment?

Winning the Club Championship for the second time

What is your vision for Greenisland GC?

To maintain its membership and retain its friendly and socially welcoming reputation.

Many thanks to our Captain for taking the time and effort to answer the questions put to him. We wish him a successful and memorable year ahead!
